Fund4Trees Charter Ride
On Friday 3 November a group of Year 7 students had the opportunity to play a little part of history in the making. The Charter for Trees, Woods and People was launched on 6 November, and Fund4Trees undertook a special cycling Charter Ride to help celebrate this significant moment.
A group of nine riders made the 170-mile cycle ride which set off from the Ankerwycke Yew at Runnymede, under whose boughs the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. A rare cutting from the yew was carried along the Charter Ride route, before being planted at Lincoln Castle at the end of the ride.
Churchmead School was lucky enough to be chosen as the first pit stop for the riders where our students took part in a ceremonial planting of a new cherry tree in our grounds and were given a valuable educational talk about the importance of trees in the environment.
Our students were a credit to the school engaging in the activity with great enthusiasm. Well done to all who took part.
